Digitising Exchange Banks:
The British imperial matrix, India, the global economy and the rise of capitalism, 1850-1914

This site presents a single case from a major study of British exchange banks from the mid-nineteenth-century to the outbreak of the First World War. The use of GIS techniques to support a spatial and temporal analysis of the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China has added a new dimension to established economic analysis of the history of these banking institutions.
